“I WOULD THOROUGHLY RECOMMEND MICKEL TO ANYONE SUFFERING FROM ANXIETY”

I had been suffering from anxiety issues since I was a small child, and had been diagnosed with Generalised Anxiety Disorder in my twenties. I had three separate courses of CBT over the years, each typically lasting around 8-10 sessions. I also had person centered psychotherapy with more than one practitioner. And for the last ten years I have taken various sorts of SSRI medication to help with the anxiety. It came to a head at the end of last year when I became completely burned out and was unable to sleep which compounded the anxious feelings.

I had heard of Mickel Therapy over 10 years ago as a relative had CFS and had found Mickel therapy extremely useful. However, I was sceptical about how useful I would find it for anxiety. A friend recommended I try it and put me in touch with Fiona Watson. I felt better after just a few sessions and by the sixth and final session I felt more in control of my anxiety and my life in general.

Mickel is unlike any other therapy I have tried since it focuses on our emotions rather than thoughts and I always struggled in CBT to out-think how I was feeling. It also equipped me to develop coping strategies which I found empowering. I would love to say that I am anxiety free now, I still suffer with anxious thoughts from time to time but it is not dominating my life in the way it used to and I have been able to stop taking medication now which I thought I would be on indefinitely. I would thoroughly recommend Mickel to anyone suffering from anxiety as it has transformed how I think about life. Fiona was the right person for me to have as a therapist as our sessions were structured and practical. I always looked forward to them and felt better afterwards. Thank you Fiona.

RECOVERY FROM CFS….”I feel more like myself than I ever have before!”

When I was 16 I got Glandular Fever and never recovered, and got diagnosed with CFS. Every day I struggled with low energy, muscle fatigue and aches, constant neck and shoulder pain, joint pain, skin problems, gut problems, sleep problems, worsened anxiety, low mood and self- esteem issues. I spent most of my week at home, or in bed, unable to work and sometimes my symptoms would worsen, with even the smallest amounts of activity. The doctors couldn’t offer anything to help and I tried so many other alternative approaches to getting better, but also I was determined not to give up and let the illness take over my life, like I felt it had done.

An old friend mentioned Mickel Therapy to me. She had recovered from ME/CFS thanks to it. I was skeptical to begin with, as I had tried so many other treatments over the last 4 years since getting diagnosed with CFS and even prior to that. I thought I may as well give it a go, so I read more information on the therapy and decided to get in touch with Fiona Watson. Fiona responded straight away and within a week, I had my first Mickel session. Fiona was very friendly and helpful on our initial phone call, which meant, that despite any anxiety I had, she put me at ease and I felt excited to start the therapy.

Straight after my first session I felt and immediate difference, like a weight being lifted off my shoulders. Fiona is very thorough, encouraging and supportive during the sessions. Throughout the whole course of my treatment, she was only a just a text or an email away if I needed help or had any questions. I had 4 Mickel Therapy sessions over a 7 week duration in total. I felt a massive improvement just in the first week alone, and those close to me even commented on this. This improvement continued to progress and now I am back to full health, not having any of the symptoms I had before, that were holding me back from living my life.

I now have lots of energy, which means I’m capable of leading a normal life again, which is something amazing to me, as I thought it would be impossible to get that back. But I am not just back to normal life…Mickel Therapy has taught me tools and keys to help me live a more full life and be able to do things any other person does. I also have the time and energy for the things I love to do! I feel more like myself than I have ever before and I feel so happy, confident and well within myself, to do things I was able to do before CFS and more! Almost 4 months since my last session, I’m now back to work, have a great social life again, able to walk and exercise without feeling abnormally exerted or needing to spend a day/week in bed. When I have long days of activity now, I no longer struggle with feeling heavy, weak, in pain, fatigued, unable to go on any longer.

I am so grateful to Mickel Therapy. It has been a game changer to finally, properly get well. I’m also beyond thankful to Fiona for all her help. She is such a warm person and has been so wonderful and kind throughout this whole journey of recovery.

Thanks, Susan, for helping me get better!

I was in a car accident nearly a year ago and had experienced high levels of anxiety and constant pain in my neck. I also suffered low mood to a point where I had brain fog. I tried so many therapies to cure myself without success. A friend told me about Mickel Therapy and to give it a try as her daughter had greatly benefited from it.

So I began my journey in November 2017 where I worked with Susan Murray who was great in helping me identify my emotions and she also patiently helped me achieve different goals towards getting myself better. She was never judgemental, so it was very easy to open up to her.

Mickel taught me the difference between my emotional and thinking brain and how I had to train myself to go with my gut feelings. I also learned not to overthink situations and how to put my own needs first, which was difficult at first as I’ve always looked after others. But with Susan’s help, I was able to care more for my own needs.

Overall, after now completing my Mickel Therapy, I feel so much happier and my pain has decreased by at least 80%. I will continue to use the Mickel Therapy tools, daily, and would recommend this therapy to others who are suffering anxiety, want to overcome it, and enjoy the things they used to.

I am now back to swimming and my gym classes which I was unable to do before.

My Journey with Mickel Therapy

My journey with Mickel TherapyJust a few words about the Mickel Therapy and how Susan Murray has helped me overcome my concerns about many health problems I’ve been experiencing over the last few years and these included, ME, Fibromyalgia and other auto-immune conditions. I was a realist and honestly didn’t expect any particularly positive outcome from my first ever “therapy” of any type, but Mickel Therapy certainly opened up my mind to ways of improving every health ailment I’d been experiencing in a subtle but definite way. So, Susan walked me through every aspect of the therapy and was incredibly patient with me.

She helped me to reduce my symptoms by a different approach to thinking about them which in turn helped my immune system calm down and unknowingly I had been fanning the flames of my own symptoms without realising I was doing so.
Susan introduced me to ways of controlling overthinking of my problems and showed me how emotions can affect our health.

Also, I cannot thank her enough for explaining how to make the most of those interests and aspirations that I had not been acting on in recent years, so I am now learning Italian, going to Pilates again, playing golf (albeit poorly) and volunteering for a charity on a weekly basis. In short, Susan has showed me a different path to walk on, one that doesn’t involve being obsessed with the illnesses I had been experiencing and as a result I am so very much better for her therapy. I will be continuing to follow the Mickel system for maximum benefit.

If you have similar health problems and have tried everything to break out of them, please do try Mickel Therapy. You won’t be disappointed and I can heartily recommend Susan as an excellent, patient and thoughtful therapist.

“I discovered that I was carrying trapped emotional hurt and unnecessarily enduring hurt from others.”

I started Mickel Therapy to alleviate lower back pain which was still causing me daily discomfort after an accident a few years ago. I had attended a church service where it was explained that sometimes long term chronic pain is a result of trapped emotional pain or trauma which need healing.

Angela Wilson worked carefully and sympathetically through my feelings and emotions not only around the accident but in general life. I discovered that I was carrying trapped emotional hurt and unnecessarily enduring hurt from others. Through this therapy I learnt to express my emotional needs so that others respected them; release negative feeling in a constructive way; balance my life and plan ahead to manage challenging times. My pain levels did respond to the therapy and I’ve learnt to examine how my emotional brain is doing if they rise up.

Whilst this therapy has not removed the pain completely, I think because there is scar tissue in the area, it helped me to manage it better. It is also an effective method for helping my daughter with the trials of teenage life.

After eighteen months of debilitating Chronic Fatigue and trying every supplement and therapy imaginable, I was finally referred to Mickel Therapy. I couldn’t believe how effective it was and how quickly I improved. I went from being barely able to walk, to within a month of starting treatment being back at the gym, and now am almost back to full time work. Mickel Therapy gave me my life back and I implore anyone suffering from Chronic Fatigue to give it a go as it is the only treatment for CFS that actually understands and treats the underlying causes of the illness.

“It’s wonderful to be pain free, have energy and be happy again!”

 I am very happily married. My husband is wonderful, supportive, kind and caring and is my best friend. My husband and I were leading quite busy lives and although very happy, we have had a fair amount of stress to deal with. I have also been through certain traumatic events that happened to me at a young age that have left me with quite a few emotional scars.

Then a couple of years ago I went through a period of not sleeping for a couple of months, worrying and over thinking every little thing. It developed into anxiety and some depression. I had feelings of not being able to cope.  Sometimes I just didn’t want to be alive, even though I love my husband and had a good life.  I suffered pain in my body,  had a lot of brain fog and sometimes felt very fatigued.   These symptoms were all new to me, although I might have had some low moods before because of my past or loneliness; I never had experienced this anxiety and pain on a daily basis. It was affecting my daily life.  It was getting me down and it was rapidly snowballing.

To try to help myself I tried deep tissue massages, had frequent sessions of acupuncture over a period of a year or so and started taking Chinese herbs for everything.  It did help with my symptoms and I accepted that acupuncture and Chinese herbs was going to be part of my life, for the rest of my life. 

Then a good friend told me about Mickel Therapy. I considered it,  but I put it off. I was sceptical and anxious about having to talk with someone. But a few months later I was feeling hopeless. I didn’t know if the Therapy was was going to work, but it was worth a try. I just knew I didn’t want to feel ill anymore.

So I contacted Fiona Watson. Straight away I warmed to her and she put me at ease. Within the first 5 minutes of listening to her explain the Therapy, I just knew this was what I needed and couldn’t wait to start!  What she explained to me made absolute perfect sense. That it’s about understanding our emotions and learning lifelong skills so we can take action and really help ourselves. That we can be in control.  This was enlightening to me. I felt so happy. I had hope again. After my first session, I began applying the Therapy and very quickly  noticed a difference in my symptoms and anxiety.

 We took a break away, took some time off and realised I didn’t have to do all that I was doing. I realised that I needed to take time for myself and start doing things I used to love doing and had stopped doing because life had got in the way..I started to understand my emotions and how to act on them appropriately.

After just 5 sessions, over a couple of months, my physical symptoms have gone, along with the anxiety and depression. I no longer take any chinese herbal medicine. I loved my experience with Fiona and always felt great after each session. I am so grateful to Mickel Therapy, to Fiona and to my friend for recommending this Therapy to me. It’s wonderful to be pain free, have energy and to be happy again!
