The Power of Body Consciousness: Our Primal Emotional Guidance System

From the moment we are born, we experience the world through Body Consciousness. A newborn doesn’t need to be taught how to feel joy, discomfort, frustration, or love—these emotions emerge instinctively, independent of thought. This is clear evidence that emotions are not created by cognition but are instead innate responses generated by the Body to guide us through an unpredictable world

Emotions: A Built-In Navigation System

In a world full of unknowns, our Body Consciousness acts as an internal compass, constantly generating emotions to signal what is beneficial or not. Unlike cognitive processing, which involves analysis and learned responses, these emotions arise spontaneously and are deeply connected to our survival and well-being. When honoured and acted upon, they ensure that we live in alignment with our needs, values, and energy balance.

However, in modern society, we are often taught to ignore or suppress these emotional signals. We are conditioned to “think positively,” rationalise our feelings, or override them entirely in favour of logic and social expectations. But what happens when we suppress our emotions instead of listening to them?

The Physical Toll of Emotional Suppression

When emotions generated by Body Consciousness are ignored or suppressed, they do not simply disappear. Instead, they create a physiological disruption at a cellular level. Unresolved emotional energy builds up, overloading the hypothalamus and triggering a chronic state of physiological duress. Over time, this stress response drains the physical body's energy, leading to conditions such as Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS), Fibromyalgia, Long Covid, and anxiety—what I refer to as Energy Disorders.

In these cases, the body is not malfunctioning; it is simply reacting to years of emotional repression. The nervous system remains stuck in a prolonged ‘fight-or-flight’ state, depleting essential resources and disrupting homeostasis. True healing does not come from suppressing symptoms or forcing positive thinking, but from reconnecting with the messages that the Body Consciousness is trying to send.
