About Dr David Mickel
For over 25 years I’ve been exploring one simple question:
What if many persistent symptoms are not signs that the body is broken—but signs that it has been communicating in a language we’ve never been taught to understand?
During my years as a doctor, I met many people living with fatigue, pain, anxiety, IBS, Long Covid and other persistent health conditions. Their symptoms were real, yet tests often offered few answers beyond managing what they were experiencing.
That curiosity became the beginning of Mickel Therapy®—an approach that continues to evolve as our understanding of the body’s own communication deepens.
My Story
Medicine gave me an invaluable understanding of the human body, but over time I became increasingly aware that something was missing.
Many of the people sitting in front of me weren’t becoming ill because their bodies had failed them. Their symptoms often seemed to arise during periods of prolonged stress, difficult life circumstances, or after years of putting their own needs aside.
The more I listened, the more I began to wonder whether these symptoms might actually represent communication rather than malfunction.
That question led me away from simply treating symptoms and towards developing a different way of understanding persistent health conditions.
Today, after working with thousands of people from around the world, that same curiosity continues to guide everything we do at Mickel Therapy®.
What 25 Years Has Taught Me
Working alongside thousands of people has reinforced a few simple truths.
Your body is not working against you.
Even when symptoms feel frightening or overwhelming, the body is usually responding rather than failing.
Symptoms often have purpose.
Rather than viewing fatigue, pain or anxiety as isolated problems, they can often be understood as signals that something deeper requires attention.
Understanding creates change.
When people begin to understand why their symptoms are happening, fear often reduces and new possibilities begin to emerge.
Recovery is about working with your body.
The goal isn’t to silence symptoms but to understand what they are communicating so the need for them gradually falls away.
Why Mickel Therapy Continues to Evolve
Mickel Therapy has never stood still.
Every client has taught us something. Every conversation has added another piece to the puzzle.
Over the years our understanding has become both deeper and simpler.
Today our work centres around the idea of a Prolonged Activation State (PAS)—a state in which the body’s nervous, endocrine and immune systems remain activated because important body signals are not yet being fully recognised or responded to.
Rather than fighting symptoms, we help people understand the communication taking place beneath them.
That understanding continues to grow, and so does Mickel Therapy®.
Our Approach
Mickel Therapy is built on a shared way of understanding persistent symptoms.
While every coach brings their own personality, experience and style, we all work from the same core principles: listening carefully, helping people understand what their body is communicating, and supporting lasting change rather than simply managing symptoms.
Our coaches complete comprehensive training in the Mickel Therapy approach and continue to learn as the model evolves. This ensures that, whoever you work with, you’ll be guided by the same understanding that sits at the heart of Mickel Therapy.
Recovery is never about someone else fixing you.
It’s about helping you understand your own body more clearly, so that lasting change can come from within.
Looking Ahead
My hope has never simply been to help more people recover.
It has always been to help change the way we understand the human body.
I believe many persistent symptoms make far more sense than we’ve traditionally been taught. When we begin to see symptoms as communication rather than malfunction, our relationship with the body changes completely.
My commitment is to continue learning, questioning and refining this understanding so that more people can discover a different path towards health.
